What is Operational Research?

Operational Research or Operations Research is a modern discipline that models and solves complex problems using mathematical, statistics and algorithms models, determining the optimal solution and allowing, in this way, to choose a decision.

Nowadays, Operational Research includes great quantity of branches like Linear Programming, Nonlinear Programming, Dynamic Programming, Simulation, Queuing Theory, Inventorys' Theory, Graph Theory, etc.

Although his birth like science was established during The Second World War and owes his name to military operations, the true origins of Operations Research remounts much more early in the time, in the XVII century. However his prosperity obeys, at most part, to the great development of information technology, and thanks to this fact, it is possible to resolve problems in practice and obtaining solutions than, in another form, would take an enormous time of calculation. Due to the great success of Operations Research at the military field, this reached into another fields such like the industry, physical, information-technology, economy, statistics and probability, ecology, education, social service, ..., being nowadays used practically in all the areas
